Sharks and Rays - Persistent notochord, constricted; mouth sub terminal to ventral; teeth numerous, continually replaced, placoid; 5-7 pair gills, separate slit openings; usually an open spiracle; jaws amphistylic or hyostylic; pelvic girdle 1 fused unit; males single clasper each pelvic fin; 1 or 2 dorsal fins, rigid, spine or not
