Cuban Missile Crisis

1962

Following the Bay Of Pigs Invasion, the USSR secretly began building missile launching sites in Cuba. On October 22, 1962 President John F. Kennedy demanded the removal of the missles. The US imposed a naval blockade on Cuba and the Russians backed down on nuclear war threats on October 28, 1962.
