Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was born on February
20,1794 in Jalapa. Santa Anna was a Mexican dictator and general. In his
mid-teens he joined the army. In 1833 he was elected the Mexican President
Santa Anna died on June 20, 1876, old and penniless.
Santa Anna commanded the Mexican Army that stormed the Alamo during the Texas
Revolution of 1835-36 and killed all 187 defenders. Sam Houston's Texans
captured him shortly after. He was most famous for commanding the forces that
repulsed the French at Veracruz; he lost a leg, and was thought of as a hero.
